American Museum of Natural History offers a variety of programs for different age groups, ranging from K to high school grade. The Art Farm in the City has weekly summer camps. The program, for children ages 3-8 years, offers activities such as cooking, science experiments, nature, music, drama, outdoor play, and they even get to learn about animals hands-on in their award-winning petting zoo! Bank Street holds several science programs that serve children ages 4-14.
Cooper Union Summer Research Internship Program Cooper Union’s Albert Nerken School of Engineering offers 6-week Summer Research Internship Programs for students completing their 10th or 11th grade year of high school. Future Kids Computer Learning offers three specially designed for children ages 3-15 years. Download the brochure to learn more. Curious Jane, sponsored by Girls Dream Out Loud is a science and design camp for girls in 3rd-6th grade located in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn and on 5th Avenue in Manhattan. The camp is offered in several sessions, each with a different theme.
Hollingworth Science Camp, an academic enrichment camp sponsored by Teacher’s College of Columbia University, provides children completing grades K-4 an opportunity to participate in hands-on science classes. Themes are identified for each grade level and include botany, flight, and the human body. Internal Drive offers iD Tech Camps at NYU’s campus, are provided in a variety of topics, including Game Design, Web and Graphic Design, and Video Editing. Children and teens ages 7-17 can choose an iD Tech Camp that specifically suits their interests. Intrepid Sea, Air and Space Museum offers two summer camps: Camp Intrepid 2011 for children 5-13 years old and a free six-week math and science camp for girls entering the 9th and 10th grade called, Camp G.
Launch Math offers an assortment of one week summer camps on Manhattan’s Upper West Side for children aged 6 to 12 years. Campers can choose from among a number of specialties including, building robots, launching high-flying rockets, designing video games, creating visual animations, and hands-on experience with electronics. Liberty Science Center, located in Jersey City, NJ offers the Partners in Science, an intensive 8-week summer program for high school Juniors and Seniors. The program runs from the end of June to the end of August. Students receive a stiped upon completion of all program requirements. Mad Science offers many different science camps at different locations throughout the city, including Manhattan and Brooklyn. Camp programs range in ages, from 1st to 5th grade in various topics.
Marymount Summer is a program of Marymount School that offers a variety of summer day programs including a five-week Science and Technology Camp. Camps are offered to children ages 5-13. The camp welcomes children ages 4 to 16 years for four, five, or six weeks. Located in Rockland Country, bus transportation is available throughout Manhattan and elsewhere. The Nature Place – Farm and Garden Days at the Nature Place Day Camp is a second, specialized program offered during early August for one or two-week sessions.

New York Hall of Science in Queens regularly offers summer camps for children K through 8th grade. For details about upcoming camps, visit the website. New York Math Circle offers students in Grades 5-12 the opportunity to expand their knowledge of mathematics By solving unusual problems, develop reasoning and problem solving skills, and apply existing knowledge in fun situations that are both new and enjoyable. Poly Prep Country Day School offers Tech Camp for ages 5-14.
The program takes into consideration the students’ interests, but includes everything from using the internet to web design. This camp is located in Brooklyn at Poly Prep Country Day School’s Dyker Heights Campus. Queens County Farm Museum and the Samuel Field YM-YWHA. Located in Floral Park, NY, the camp offers a full six-week farm program and flexible mini-sessions for children entering 1st through 5th grades. Robo Fun offers one week summer camp programs from June 13 through September 2. Campers can choose to enroll in specialty camps in robotics, video game design, and claymation or a program that provides hands-on experience in a variety of areas.
The camp runs during the hours of 9 a. Science Teacher Sarah leads hands-on activities and regular day trips around New York City in the summer Science Adventure Camp. Campers experience and are exposed to a diverse set of science topics. The program is designed for campers preschool-age through grade 5.
Program at NYU is an innovative pre-college enrichment program for talented middle and high school students in New York City. Stone Barn Center’s Farm Camp is a camp for rising 1st-8th graders who are interested in learning how a farm works. Through weekly themes and varied activities, all campers experience garden work, animal chores, crafts, games and hiking. The program explores the farm-to-table connection where all participants pitch in both in the garden and in the kitchen. Held at SUNY Purchase in Westchester, New York from July 3rd through August 5th, the program is available for both commuters and overnight campers. Participants may select different courses in animated moviemaking, web coding, or game design.

Combining these movements leads to newly imagined number systems. The temporal dynamics of influenza are driven by climatic conditions and by antigenic evolution of the virus. However, important spatial variation remains unexplained. I will discuss recent work that uses fine-grained insurance claims data to study differences in influenza dynamics across 603 cities in the United States.

The Gideon Math program is designed to achieve mastery of computational skills. Mastery equals confidence, speed, and accuracy. The program consists of over 180 weekly booklets arranged sequentially from beginning number sense through high school geometry. Our Beginning Math booklets focus on number recognition for numbers 1-500.
Exercises include counting, number tracing, sequencing, next number and number before concepts, and place value. To calculate efficiently, it is important to know the basic facts.
Calculation skills are practiced until real mastery is achieved. Just a few minutes of practice each day will result in a happy and confident student. Finger counting and careless errors will stop, and homework will not be such a chore. These vary from state to state but include a bachelor’s degree in education from an approved teacher education program, a student teaching internship, and a passing score on a competency test such as Praxis. No matter what grade level they teach, math educators must have an in-depth knowledge of mathematical concepts, an understanding of how students learn mathematics, and extensive knowledge of mathematics curriculum and standards. At the lower grade levels, the NCTM recommends that math teachers should have completed the equivalent of at least three college-level mathematics courses.
Another option is to earn an endorsement as an elementary math specialist. At the middle and high school levels, math teachers typically have a degree in math education. The NCTM says math teachers at this level should complete mathematics coursework equivalent to what is required for a major in mathematics outside the education department. Math is a rapidly changing and developing field, so math teachers should be committed to lifelong professional learning. Mathematics Education Career Outlook According to the US Bureau of Labor Statistics, the teaching field in general is expected to grow about as fast as the average for all occupations. Yet, there is a considerable shortage of math teachers according to a 2008 study by the American Association of Employment in Education, so qualified applicants will find plenty of opportunity. Job prospects will be even better in less desirable and rural school districts.

Online programs are best for individuals who are self-directed, and are also ideal for those who wish to maintain their current employment while pursuing higher education. Three options for online degrees in math education include Grand Canyon University, Liberty University and Western Governors University.
